TychoやCom Truiseのドラマーとして屋台骨を支えるRory O’Connorによるソロ・プロジェクト、Nitemovesがセカンド・アルバム『Themes』で日本デビュー!
NitemovesはワシントンDC在住のRory O’Connorによるソロ・プロジェクトである。Roryは元々4Tracksとアナログ・シンセ(Arp Odyssey)を用いて、10年以上前から創作に励んできた。現在はTychoやCom Truiseのドラマーとしての活動にその重きを置いているが、このソロ・プロジェクトから彼のサウンド・クリエイターとしてのセンスがひしひしと窺える。
本作『Themes』はGhostly International所属のJakub Alexanderが運営するデジタル・レーベルで、ShigetoやKysonも輩したMoodgadgetからリリースした2作目となるアルバム。Tychoでも存分に発揮されている持ち前のタフ且つリズミカルなドラミングにレトロ/ヴィンテージ・テイストのカラフルなシンセやエレクトロニクスが絶妙の低音やリヴァーブに彩られながら浮遊し、メロディックでグルーヴィな世界観を描き出す。
シンプルながら夢幻の広がりを見せる音世界は決してTychoやCom Truiseの部分ではなく、極めて独創的である。そして親しみに満ちたそのサウンドは自然と耳に馴染み聴くものの体は自然とリズムを刻み、『Themes』というタイトルが聴くたびにしっくりとハマって来る。是非Tychoの新作と合わせ聴いていただきたい秀作。
Nitemoves is the electronic guise/internet handle of musician/producer Rory O’Connor. Starting over a decade ago with a four track and an Arp Odyssey, O’Connor has been writing intricate and melodic arrangements under various monickers; always striving to incorporate his rhythmic sensibilities as a life-long drummer.
In the time since he began augmenting Ghostly International veterans Com Truise and Tycho on stages across the world, Nitemoves has released one full length and a handful of singles on ambient wizard Jakub Alexander’s Moodgadget label. His sophomore effort, Themes, will be available in the summer of 2013.
